All About Jute
Let’s talk about jute—a humble hero in the world of natural fibres.
Jute is a strong, breathable plant fibre that’s been used for centuries to make things like rope, sacks, and rugs. These days, it’s also making waves in fashion for all the right reasons. It’s durable, versatile, and one of the most eco-friendly materials out there.
Why? Because jute is rain-fed (no intensive irrigation), grows super fast, and needs very little to thrive—no fancy chemicals or fertilisers required. It’s also 100% biodegradable and compostable. Basically, it’s a material that’s as kind to the Earth as it is to your wardrobe.
At Juju & Co, we use double-washed, vegetable-dyed jute in muted, earthy shades. This washing process softens the fibres, giving our jute a lived-in feel that’s gentle to the touch—while still being strong enough for everyday use. The result is a more relaxed, elevated version of a classic natural material.
Caring for washed jute
Jute is naturally low-maintenance, but a little care goes a long way in keeping it looking fresh. Here’s what we recommend:
-
Keep it out of direct sunlight when not in use, as sun exposure can cause colours to fade over time.
-
Spot clean gently with a damp cloth if needed—avoid soaking it.
-
Let it air dry completely before storing, and keep it in a dry, well-ventilated space.
And if your accessory includes leather handles, don’t forget to care for those too—we recommend Collonil’s Premium Waterproofer and aniline leather care products for the best results.
Strong, simple, soft—and sustainable. Jute is proof that natural materials can be both beautiful and practical.
